The Grove

Welcome to La Torre.

La Torre is one of the largest landscapes under Abandoned Grove's care, spanning multiple hillside parcels across nearly thirty acres surrounding Florence.

With varied elevations and exposures to the north, southwest, and south, the grove contains a range of microclimates that shape how the trees develop across the seasons.

Today, La Torre is home to 2,841 olive trees, primarily Frantoio, Moraiolo, and Leccino, alongside Pendolino, Olivo Bianco, and Maurino.

La Torre grove restoration

Restoration

Abandoned Grove began caring for La Torre in 2011.

What began as the restoration of a single neglected grove gradually expanded as neighbouring parcels were brought back into care through successive phases in 2013, 2015, and 2016.

Over time, these individual landscapes were reconnected into a single, continuous system, restoring not only the trees but the broader agricultural structure of the land.

La Torre also became a gathering place for the community surrounding this work. It is where we celebrate the first oil of the season, bringing together families, growers, members, and friends around fresh oil and food. It is also the setting for our end-of-harvest lunch, a moment shared with those who help sustain the groves throughout the year.
