Welcome to Osteria Grove, nestled beneath the 13th-century San Quirico e Giulitta a Ruballa church, offering a stunning panoramic view of Brunelleschi’s world-renowned Cupula in the city center of Florence.

Our newly named Osteria Grove, situated just 3 kilometers from Florence in Bagno a Ripoli, is home to 262 resilient Moraiolo olive trees. This grove was abandoned by the Diocese around 25 years ago after a devastating fire. When we started rejuvenating the grove in 2020, it was overrun with dense brush and inhabited by wild boar and invasive species. The trees were severely weakened due to neglect, frosts, and the fire, barely producing fruit.

Our initial efforts at Osteria Grove were truly a labor of love, requiring extensive cleanup and careful pruning. After two years of dedicated care, the grove showed significant improvement, but we chose to delay the harvest for an additional year to allow the trees to fully regain their strength and vitality. Finally, on October 26 and 27, 2023, the grove yielded its first harvest in nearly three decades. Despite the challenges, this harvest was a celebration, made possible by the communal effort of our local Bagno a Ripoli community, our family members, and participants from our social agricultural program.

Today, Osteria Grove stands as a symbol of resilience and community effort. The grove, with its 262 Moraiolo olive trees thriving at an altitude of 220 meters, benefits from favorable western sun exposure. Our commitment to sustainable practices and biodiversity control has transformed this grove into a thriving habitat.

Osteria Grove’s unique location, cradled beneath a historic church of San Quirico e Giulitta a Ruballa with a panoramic view of Florence, adds to its charm. The grove's rejuvenation journey, from battling wild boar and neglect to achieving a successful harvest, showcases our dedication and perseverance.

“Abandoned olive groves are more than just trees. They're the storytellers of our past, living symbols of an identity and the biodiversity that makes each region unique, and deserving of our care.”
