In the heart of the community between Antella and Grassina lies Balatro Grove, the inaugural project of Abandoned Grove’s rejuvenation efforts.
This land, once owned by the historical Vicchi Finzi Family, who dominated the area, is steeped in rich history and promise.Balatro Grove, spanning an impressive 7.06 hectares, has undergone rejuvenation in multiple phases—in 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2018. Situated at 200 meters with a northeast exposure, the grove boasts various microclimates, ideal for olive cultivation.
It is home to 975 trees, primarily of the Frantoio, Moraiolo, and Leccino varieties. A sprinkling of Pendolino and Olivo Bianco trees adds further diversity to this remarkable collection.
Balatro Grove holds historical significance for us. In 2011, we made history by creating the region’s first monocultivar olive oil, an oil crafted solely from the Leccino variety, underscoring our commitment to innovation and excellence.
Today, Balatro Grove thrives due to our dedication to olive oil production and community. The diverse array of olive trees flourishes under our care, enabling us to produce the highest quality extra virgin olive oil.
Looking ahead, we plan to breathe even more life into Balatro by planting additional trees in the grove's open spaces, further emphasizing our dedication to nurturing growth and development.
“Abandoned olive groves are more than just trees. They're the storytellers of our past, living symbols of an identity and the biodiversity that makes each region unique, and deserving of our care.”
