Welcome to Isone, our latest rejuvenation project, nestled between Osteria Nuova and Antella. This unique grove covers ten acres at an elevation of 189 meters, characterized by a blend of wild bush, abandoned olive trees, and dense forest.
Isone has a rich history hidden within its landscape. As we explored the land, we discovered remnants of an ancient wall, possibly an old Roman aqueduct, and signs of traditional agriculture with grape vines among the olive and fruit trees. These discoveries hint at Isone’s rich, biodiverse past.
Isone holds a special place in our hearts because it offers us a unique chance to create a thriving grove for future generations. It provides us with an almost blank canvas to envision and cultivate a bright new future for the land.
We are in the process of reviving approximately 150 existing olive trees and plan to introduce between 800 and 1,200 new ones. We are collaborating with agronomists and geologists to select the best native cultivars for this land. The rare and consistent water source in Isone allows us to establish an emergency irrigation system, laying the foundation for the grove's sustainable and flourishing future.
Isone’s geographical advantages are significant. The natural water source and full-day sun exposure provide ideal growing conditions, while the colder winters in the valley contribute to the grove's unique microclimate. These factors, combined with our planned sustainable practices, will help us create a thriving grove.
“Abandoned olive groves are more than just trees. They're the storytellers of our past, living symbols of an identity and the biodiversity that makes each region unique, and deserving of our care.”
